Coping With Prostate Cancer |
How does one cope with the diagnosis of prostate cancer?
The diagnosis of prostate cancer may change the lives of both the patient and their family. It is quite normal at times for patients or their loved ones to feel frightened, angry or depressed.
For most people sharing their concerns and feelings can help these natural reactions. Patients may find comfort in discussing their problems with other prostate cancer patients. They should bear in mind however that no two individuals or tumours are the same. The patient's doctor is the best person to discuss his own condition, to avoid a little knowledge being a worrying thing!
Although it is upsetting to be diagnosed as having cancer, prostate cancer is a slow-growing cancer and you are fortunate in having had it diagnosed at a potentially curable stage.
You now need to choose one of the three treatment options available. This is a very important decision and you should take as much time as you think you need to do make it. Your doctor will help you make the right choice for you but cannot make this decision for you. For detailed information on each of the treatments select this link to view the Treatments section of the site.
