Stephen Langley was educated at St Paul’s School, London before studying medicine at St Bartholomew’s Medical School London. He graduated with honours in 1988 and then began his surgical training during which time he received a number of awards and prizes for research.

He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1993 and was awarded a Master of Surgery higher degree in 1994 for work undertaken at St Thomas’ Hospital London. In 1996 he passed his Specialist exams in Urology in which he was awarded the Keith Yates Gold medal for outstanding performance. In his final year in training he undertook a 6 month fellowship in America learning the art of radical prostatectomy at USC, Los Angeles; John Hopkins, Baltimore and Duke, North Carolina.

He was appointed Consultant Urological Surgeon aged 32 at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford in 1997. He has developed an international reputation in prostate brachytherapy having successfully treated over 600 patients. Collaborating with the University of Surrey he has built and leads an award winning research team working in the field prostate cancer. He has established a number of medical courses and has taught the technique of prostate brachytherapy to over 100 consultants across Europe. In 2004 he was appointed Visiting Professor of Urology at the Post Graduate Medical School of Surrey University aged 39.

His interests outside of medicine include rugby, boating and sailing. He is a qualified Yachtmaster and has spent most of his time afloat in the Caribbean and Mediterranean waters. He is married and his wife expecting their first child in May 2005.
